Crossing Paths

Each of us have the chance to impact someone's life every moment of the day and with every interaction. However, we often don't think about the impression we have on each other or the true purpose of "an unintentional or a random" meeting.

I recently had an impromptu meeting with a young lady about her career aspirations. While we talked, I had the urge to ask her about her family. I resisted the urge for half the meeting because I thought it was not relevant to our discussion. Finally, I gave in, smiled, and said to her "How is your family doing?"

She paused for awhile and stared at me. In that quiet time, I thought "Wow. I crossed the line and now we are in an awkward situation." She eventually dropped her head and said "My mom is very sick. She has been sick for awhile, but things are getting worse."

I reached across the table, slowly held her hands and asked "Can I pray with you?" She nodded yes and I began to pray. After praying for physical healing for her mom, strength for her family and wisdom for the doctors/nurses who were providing treatment, I closed the prayer with "Thank You, God."

Her sadness turned to a smile. She looked me in the eyes and said "How did you know?" I was abit confused so I replied, "Know what?" She went on to explain that her mom was getting treatment as we spoke and her mom's health was heavy on her heart. She then confessed that she was losing faith and questioning God's love for her family.

I encouraged her not to lose faith, but to believe in God no matter what. I shared that life can be very challenging at times, but God is always faithful. She smiled and thanked me for praying on behalf of her family.

As we said our goodbyes and she smiled at me one last time, I realized that our paths crossed for a divine purpose. It was not just about mentoring or career advancement for this young lady. God made our paths cross at the right time so both of our faith could be strengthened by His love.

Psalm 16:11 "You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand."
