The Storm Calmed

We arrived at church last Sabbath only to be told that lunch would not be served because of the pending storm. This was a bit disappointing because as Seventh-day Adventists we often look forward to the fellowship after worship.

We set our minds on leaving soon after the service, only to be invited to potluck. During lunch, we told the couple we were having lunch with about Mount Greylock which is the highest peak in Massachusetts, located in the Berkshires. It offers panoramic views up to 90 miles away on clear days.
We were planning to drive to the peak and then walk around up there. Unfortunately, it was raining elephants and horses outside. The weather report claimed that it would stop raining around 4pm, so we decided to hang around the church for a few more hours. We began engaging in some deep conversation with the couple and swapping cancer survival stories.
The lady had survived a very progressive and deadly form of cancer, so she was grateful for another birthday yesterday. We spoke for about 30 minutes when her husband expressed interest in leaving church. The storm was raging outside and the winds were strong. The couple became worried since it was a long walk from the building to their vehicle.
The wife wanted to keep talking, but the husband was getting antsy and wanted to return to their resort. I silently prayed asking God to pause the rain so this couple and others who wanted to leave could do so. I claimed God's promises of asking and receiving (Matthew 7:7; James 4:2). Within less than 5 minutes, the storm calmed and they were able to leave the church without getting soaked.
Thanks be to God for His wonder working power!!
By the time my family left the church, the storm had completely stopped. We didn't get to go hiking, but we witnessed God fulfilling yet another promise as in Matthew 7:7, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." I had to rejoice because God is amazingly faithful.
